How to plan a romantic escape for You and Your Love

How to plan a romantic escape - A long weekend or few days away in the countryside can be just what you need to escape your everyday and make memories. Imagine cozy evenings by the fire, long lie ins, & slow walks, no rushing, just exploring new places together.

Here’s how we think the perfect romantic getaway should look—including simple romantic gestures that will help make your time away together unforgettable.

Choosing the Perfect Place to Stay

When it comes to planning your romantic escape, the first step is finding the right place. We think we've got you covered with our little green hut & little cottage here in the historic Peak District Village of Eyam.

Think about your ideal location—do you want to be somewhere new to you or somewhere familiar, are you happy to travel a distance or are you restricted to being somewhere closer to home?

Think about what you would like in your cosy accommodation ... a real log fire to cuddle up in front of, or even a well stocked kitchen perfect for cooking & preparing a favourite meal together.

Packing for Romance

As well as finding your perfect place to stay, think about what you might need to help make your time away romantic. We offer the following as standard to help you create a romantic ambiance:

If you are planning on a romantic wander, don't forget some appropriate shoes & a warm coat with a pocket to pop some favourite chocolate in too ;-)

Setting the Mood

When you arrive , setting the mood is everything. Here are a few ideas for simple romantic gestures that can elevate your experience & hopefully impress your other half:

  1. Create a Warm Atmosphere: As soon as you enter, light some candles and start a fire if there is a fireplace. This adds warmth both literally and emotionally.

  2. Cook Together: Plan for a special dinner where both partners can participate. The experience of cooking together can be fun and intimate. Bring along a recipe that you both love or try something new.

  3. Stargazing: The Peak District has designated dark sky areas, perfect for stargazing close to Eyam at Surprise View near Hathersage. Wrap up and head outside once the sun goes down. Take a blanket and lie down together, sharing stories and dreams while you gaze at the stars.

Nature Adventures

The Peak District is the perfect location for adventure. Explore the local walking routes & quaint villages. Here are some activity ideas:

  • Hiking/Rambling/Walking: We provide walking books & maps in the little green hut & the cottage for you to use. We really do have beautiful views straight from the doors, they are quiet & off the beaten track. We are able to give you hints, tips & our favourite places & hidden gems too.

  • Biking: If you love biking, bring along your bikes or rent them locally at Hassop station. There are lots of great flat routes for beginners & many more challenging for the more adventurous.

  • Nature Photography: Capture the beauty around you with some spontaneous photography! Not only will it help you remember your trip, but you can also create mementos together.

Doing something you wouldn't normally do, making moments together will give you memories that you both will cherish.

Thoughtful Touches

A little thoughtfulness goes a long way in enhancing your romantic retreat. We know this because you tell us so, in the guest books and the online reviews you leave.

Thoughtful touches, little details that you notice, that make your stay with us extra special that are easy to do. Books to read, treats to share, pillow sprays & artisan soaps... Here are a few simple romantic gestures you could do yourselves too, to impress your special someone:

  • Leave Little Notes: Write small love notes and hide them for your partner to find. It’s a cute & romantic way to express your feelings in unexpected moments.

  • Prepare a Love Playlist: Before your trip, create a playlist of songs that are meaningful to both of you. Play it during dinner or while you’re relaxing together.

  • Surprise with Breakfast in Bed: Even if it’s a simple spread of fruits, pastries, and coffee, surprising your partner with breakfast in bed is a charming gesture.

Enjoying Quiet Moments

Lastly, don’t forget to take the time to just be together. Sometimes the most romantic moments are spent in comfortable silence, simply enjoying each other’s presence. Whether you’re sitting outside by the firepit, reading together, or enjoying a glass of wine, these quiet moments are important.

Consider a digital detox & putting away your devices and relax in the natural beauty around you. We always encourage you to disconnect from technology and reconnect with each other.
